Keening For Ourselves and The Collective: A Sacred Grief Ceremony (Facilitated by Death Doula Aimee Traeden)

Aimee Traeden is a Death Doula who leads incredibly beautiful sacred shamanic keening ceremonies for releasing and processing grief in a very sacred and honored traditional way.

This ceremony is inspired by the ancient Irish tradition of Keening, a ceremonial practice that has its roots dating back to the 5th Century. In this ancient rite, Keening women traversed the land, offering their compassionate services to those who mourned their dearly departed.

During this Keening Ceremony, Aimee will guide us as we embrace the role of vocalizing our profound sorrow and anguish, giving voice to our grief through the power of song. Within this sacred space, we delve deep into the pain, allowing it to traverse through our bodies and be released through our voices. This emotional release may manifest in forms such as chanting, unrestrained singing, and tears, bearing testament to the intensity of our emotions. Through the Keening process, we channel these powerful emotions and transmute them into a source of healing.

This sacred ceremony pays homage to the wisdom of our ancestors, rekindling a profound connection with the healing potential of grief.

If you find yourself burdened by the weight of emotions swirling through the collective, please join us in allowing your grief to move through your body, from your lungs, over your heart, and out of your mouth. Together, we will sing for both the departed and those who grieve. This is an opportunity to connect, heal, and share in a collective release of sorrow.

After the Keening Ceremony, we will be taking some time to integrate our experience and regulate our nervous systems.

**** PLEASE NOTE: This is a Keening Ceremony which means we will be processing grief through our bodies, to help release and transmute the emotions and the energy not only within ourselves but also within the collective. This can be an intense ceremony as many different emotions can arise, so please check in with yourself and make sure you are able to advocate for your needs and your well-being. If you are in the midst of a crisis, this may not be the appropriate space for you, so please check-in with yourself in an honest way.
